Des Barber
With a radio career spanning nearly three decades and more than 50 years behind the decks, Des Barber has become a familiar and trusted voice behind a mic. His journey began at KCBC radio in Kettering, a small local station where his passion for broadcasting truly took root. From those early days, Des’s talent and dedication propelled him across the airwaves to some of the most beloved stations in the region - including Lite FM in Peterborough, Hertbeat FM in Hertford, and even Global Radio in Spain.
Throughout his career, Des has worn many hats — presenter, producer, manager, and mentor — each role showcasing his deep understanding of what makes great radio: authenticity, connection, and community.
Most notably, Des founded Corby Radio, where he spent 15 years leading the station full-time. Under his guidance, Corby Radio grew into a true hub for local voices and stories, becoming an essential part of the town’s identity.
Now recently retired from full-time management, Des looks back on a career defined by passion, perseverance, and people. While he may have stepped back from the day-to-day running of the studio, his love for radio - and the community it serves - continues to play on today with his main musical love, Northern and Modern Soul music.
Des is looking forward to the next part of his journey playing great music at Boomerang Radio that is sure to bring back one or two memories.
